Museum of Hungarian Speaking Jewry


The Museum of the Hungarian Speaking Jewry was founded in 1986 by Hava and Yosef Lustig. The museum illustrates the life and customs of Hungarian Jews that includes an archival collection of artifacts, photographs and documents highlighting the insight of pre-WWII Hungarian-speaking Jewry. The museum hosts a dramatic exhibits on the traumatic era of the Holocaust and exhibiting the past Jewish communities that include: Hungary, Transylvania, Slovakia, Russia, Bachka, Banat, and Burgenland. Guided tours are offered upon request. The museum signs are in Hebrew, Hungarian and English.

Beit HaMeiri Museum

Beit HaMeiri was founded by Yehezkel Hameiri in 1980. The museum is located in a 150-year-old building that features 5 floors each describing the various events of Tzfat's history. The museum documents the Jewish life of Tzfat between the beginning of the 19th century until 1948. Exhibits include: unique collections of manuscripts, documents, photographs, paintings, and countless stories of the history of Tzfat. The museum offers guided tours and activities for visitors and is an archive for researchers and genealogists. All signs in the museum are posted in English.

Israel Bible Museum

The museum was founded by artist Phillip Ratner in 1984 that features about a 300  piece collection of art that illustrates scenes and images from the bible.

Frenkel Frenel Museum

The museum was established by Frenkel Frenel in 1973 and is located in the center of the Artists' colony of Safed and houses a unique collection of his paintings inside of a historic 12th century building.  The museum is considered one of the largest private museums in Israel and offers both private and guided tours for groups and individuals.

This place is in a very central location for those interested in the Old City of Tzfat. One downside if you bring a personal vehicle is that there isn't any free parking nearby, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. ...
