General Safed Exhibition

Founded in 1952 by several local artists to create a group gallery inside the white-domed Ottoman-era Market Mosque. Art lovers will find on a display work from about 50 painters, 10 sculptors, and from talented artists from the former Soviet Union. If you are in search of a particular work just ask for directions where to find the artist's studio.

Safed Candles Gallery

Here you will find a variety of beautiful candles of all colors, shapes, and sizes. In this gallery you will see how Shabbat, Havdalah and Chanukah candles are braided and decorated, drop by an expert candle marker. The major attraction of this gallery include the largest braided Havdalah candle (it’s got 180 strands) in the world and masterpiece of a mini-diorama displaying David holding up the severed head of Goliath. The gallery is located about 50 meters down an alley from the Ashkenazi Ari Synagogue.

Fig Tree Court Yard

The Fig Tree Court Yard Gallery adopted it's during the 20th century when the Hamami family planted a fig tree in the courtyard surrounded by a two-story building. Today, the gallery is located around a centenarian fig tree and a 9 meter cistern that can be seen through a glass floor panel. Visitors can find a collection of galleries where Tzfat artists and craft workers show their work. There are also views of the Galilee, Mt Meron, Mt Tabor, and the cliffs of the Amud Stream (Nahal Amud) from the rooftop patio.

Tzfat Gallery of Mystical Art

Avraham Loewenthal immigrated to Tzfat, Israel from Detroit, Michigan and open the Tzfat Gallery of Mystical Art in 1994. He creates his art from the inspiration of Jewish mysticism and is more than happy to illustrate the symbolism of his colorful, and abstract works. Those interested in a private viewing should call to make special arrangements. The gallery is located across the street from HaMa’ayan HaRadum Sq.

Kosmic Kabbalah Art by David Friedman

David Friedman one of Tzfat's popular Kabbalah artists immigrated to Tzfat, Israel in 1979 from Denver Colorado and opened the Kosmic Kabbalah art gallery. His work stems from the inspiration of turning Kabbalah and Torah concepts into colors and shapes utilizing graphics. One example of his work is the Jewish mandala ("The Orchard of the Torah") and applying the code of the Hebrew alphabet and Kabbalistic symbols (The Tree of Life) into the universal language of color and geometry to capture amazing visual illustrations of Kabbalah. Individuals and groups are welcome to reserve a lecture with David Friedman where his presentations show visitors how Judaism, Kabbalah, and how the Tzfat Kabbalistic tradition has influenced Judaism. The gallery is located approximately 100 meters northwest of HaMaginim Sq.

Sheva Chaya Glassblowing Gallery

Sheva Chaya Servetter immigrated to Israel from the Denver Colorado in 1997 and moved to the Artist Quarter of Safed where she opened the Sheva Chaya Glassblowing Gallery. She applies Kabbalistic concepts and women’s themes in Judaism to her work. Individuals and groups are welcome to watch her glass-blowing demonstrations during the summer months ( July and August), and often throughout the year.  Visitors can also admire her unique paintings, pendants, Judaica, candlesticks and glass-blown sculptures or listen to the artist lecture how she connected her art to her Jewish heritage. The gallery is conveniently located across the street from the General Safed Exhibition in the Artist Quarter.

Burde Silversmiths

The Burde Silversmiths gallery was founded in 2004 by artist Josh Burde. The gallery is located the heart of the Kabbalistic old city of Safed. The work of Josh Burde follows the mystical energy and history of Safed and handcrafts many unique silver and gold jewelry and Judaica that is inspired by the ancient Kabbalistic teachings. The gallery adopted the cultivation of tradition through contemporary design. The gallery now offers an online e-commerce website where you can customize unique pieces or gifts for weddings, anniversaries, bar mitzvahs, and birthdays that includes (hand-engraving and setting of precious and semi-precious gemstones).

Safed Craft Pottery

UK-born potter Daniel Flatauer arrived in Safed, Israel more than 30 years ago and founded Safed Crafted Pottery that is located in the heart of the Artist's Quarter, conveniently located around the corner from the General Exhibition. He works follow a pottery tradition that include traditional tableware, kitchenware and Judaica that are inspirational beautiful. He is the only potter in Israel known to have a salt kiln. The artist welcomes visitors to browse his studio and shop and see his unique stoneware and porcelain Judaica that includes Kiddush cups, Seder plats, candlesticks, ritual washing cups and menorahs.

Canaan Gallery

Orna and Yair Mor founded the Canaan Gallery in 1992. They adopted the name from Mt. Canaan, the mountain that over looks the Old City of Tzfat. The gallery still follows Tzfat’s centuries-old textile tradition that was first started by Jews fleeing the Spanish Inquisition. Orna and Yair Moore’s showcases some of the finest hand-woven Judaica that is created on wooden looms with the textures and fibers following a tradition of ancient Israel that include: richly textured tapestries, wall hangings and Jewish ritual objects (talitot, kippot, challah covers). Visitors who visit the Canaan gallery can arrange a demonstration of the weaving process and see how fabrics are woven by hand.

Yair Gallery

Artist Moshe Yair is a seventh generation Yair who is from Safed and founded the "Yair Gallery". His roots can be traced to Safed from Spain.  Moshe adopted his inspiration for micro calligraphy art from his grandmother inscribing psalms with very tiny Hebrew letters. Moshe Yair was also inspired by the text that can be seen written in the lanes of the Old City. His masterpieces of micro calligraphy paintings include the texts that come from the book "Songs of Solomon", the grieving in "Lamentations" and the sorrow of "Ecclesiastes" as well as works from Jacob's ladder, the Jewish Exodus from Egypt show the (splitting of the red sea), and King David's songs. Moshe Yair art work are all one of a kind originals and hand painted or hand written. Any of his work would make a great addition for any art lover's collection. The "Yair Gallery" is located in the heart of the Old City of Safed, Israel.
